Tesla Bot Optimus; how humanoid robots and AI would shape the future of labour force.

Tesla Bot Optimus

Tesla Bot Optimus humanoid progressive developmental features, what Elon Musk and the company is up with to accomplish with AI in the humanoid robot using Dojo and how it would ramp up productivity in work spaces, expectations, reviews and critics from expert having robots to replace human labour.

Optimus the Tesla Bot is a conceptual 125 pound 5’8” general-purpose robotic humanoid under development by Tesla, Inc to carry out dangerous, repetitive and boring jobs to provide for manufacturing assistance. It was announced at the company’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day event on 19th August, 2021. Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed during the event that Tesla would likely build a prototype by 2022. Musk is on record having said that he thinks Optimus “has the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time.

On April 7, 2022, a display for the product was featured at the Tesla Giga Texas manufacturing plant during the Cyber Rodeo event. Musk said that he hopes to have the robot production-ready by 2023 and claimed Optimus will eventually be able to do “anything that humans don’t want to do.”

On June 3rd, 2022, Musk announced that the display model at (AI) Day event and the Giga Texas opening slated for will not look anything like the first prototype that Tesla hopes to unveil later in 2022.

Tesla Bot Features and Specification

According to the presentation made during the 2021 AI Day event, a Tesla Bot Optimus will be controlled by the same AI system Tesla is developing for the advanced driver-assistance system used in its cars and have a carrying capacity of 45 lb (20 kg). Proposed tasks for the product are ones that are “dangerous, repetitive and boring”, such as providing manufacturing assistance.

What will Tesla Bot do

Tesla Bot will have capabilities to do different things for mankind. In one word, it will be your digital or cyber slave. It will make your day fine by doing dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks of yours. For example, you can tell it to go to the kitchen and get a knife – and it will happen. Mark told in the AI event that In the future, physical work will be the choice of human. I can do the work or make it done by the robot.

Tesla Bot will be operated and functioned as a productive member of the household. It will use multi-camera video neural networks to perform tasks. Neural Net planning, labeling, simulation and tools will also be used to operate it effectively and efficiently.

It is ok to think an ordinary job they’d be directly suited to work with Robotic delivery vans. Like the robotic vans, Tesla Bot could work 24/7/365 without any complaint and work factory manufacturing tasks. Within tasks they could charge from the van or around the workspace so they wouldn’t need a lot of battery power to work.

Tesla Bot Cost & Price

Right now the Tesla Bot exists almost fully in the mind of Elon Musk. There is no way to estimate the cost of such a highly advanced device. So, the cost and price of the Tesla Bot has not been published officially yet, During Musk’s TED appearance in April, he estimated that Optimus would cost less than a car once Tesla scales production.

Tesla Bot Release Date

The company CEO Elon Musk announced that the prototype of Tesla Bot will be released in 2022. But no exact date is disclosed by this company. On April 7, 2022, a display for the product was featured at the Tesla Giga Texas manufacturing facility during the Cyber Rodeo event. Musk said that he hopes to have the robot production-ready by 2023.

It may take several years to build a real Tesla Bot for commercial use. It is quite easy for an artist to design a mock-up of a robot using software but actually building a prototype would take a lot of time.

Reviews and Expert Opinions

Soon after the event, many publications reacted with skepticism about the proposed product. Bloomberg News claimed that such a product constituted “mission creep” and stood outside “the company’s clean-energy initiatives.” The Washington Post argued that “Tesla has a history of exaggerating timelines and overpromising at its product unveilings and investor presentations.”

The Verge similarly noted that “Tesla’s history is littered with fanciful ideas that never panned out… it’s anyone’s guess as to whether aworking Tesla Bot will ever see the light of day” and, in an editorial, described the Tesla Bot reveal as a “bizarre and brilliant bit of tomfoolery”.

Carl Berry, a lecturer of robotics engineering, described the AI Day presentation “the usual over blown hype.” Following the Tesla Bot display at the Cyber Rodeo event, scientist Gary Marcus stated he would “bet that no robot will be able to do all human tasks by the end of 2023.”

Optimus has been in the works for nearly a year. The Tesla Bot was unveiled at last year’s AI Day. Everyone expects Tesla to unveil the long-awaited Optimus prototype during the upcoming AI Day 2022. Hopefully, Tesla would elaborate more on the humanoid robot’s production and potential release date on the market.  Tesla AI Day 2022 is a recruitment event similar to last year. The company is also expected to talk about its Dojo AI supercomputer, as well as its next-generation in-house computer, Hardware 4, which is expected to debut with the Cybertruck.
